CEA Technologies was established in 1983 by two former Naval Officers with a goal of creating a centre of excellence for the design and support of systems for the Australian Defence Force.

On 29 November 2021, CEA and the Commonwealth of Australia signed a major contract for AIR6500 Phase 1 Tranche 1. The Department of Defence is procuring the CEA CEAFAR HPAR system as part of the Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS). The HPAR-64SG configuration will provide the RAAF with enhanced mobility, situational awareness and fire control capabilities. This configuration provides long range radar and IFF surveillance and tracking, while simultaneously adapting to its ever changing electromagnetic and clutter environment.
